The former monastery church of Rott am Inn in Upper Bavaria provides a perfect setting in architectural and artistic terms for a concert comprising of a selection of music for Christmas. The film tells the story of the birth of Christ using words of the Holy Scriptures to the accompaniment of music ranging from Bach, Bruckner, Reger and Brahms to old Bavarian folk tunes. The performers are the Neubeuern Choral Society and the Bach Collegium of Munich, conducted by Enoch zu Guttenberg. The narrator of excerpts from the Gospels of Matthew and Luke is the German actor Peter Luehr.
