Metamorphoses:
A Film by Achim Freyer
Director, stage designer and painter Achim Freyer is internationally acclaimed for his theatre and opera productions at top European venues. This avant-garde music feature, plucked straight from his imagination, marks his debut as a film-maker and is an arresting example of the innovative style of his work. It is set to music by Olivier Messiaen and Erik Satie and conjures up a primordial world inhabited by bizarre characters whose outward appearance has become a manifestation of their inner hopes and desires. Through the sometimes grotesquely drawn protagonists and their bizarre actions, the Mediterranean landscapes, which form a backdrop to the film, take on a seductive, dream-like quality.
