1997 star trumpet player Herb Alpert came back to Germany for the first time in 23 years. Alpert is considered - next to Miles Davis - as one of the most famous and influential trumpet players worldwide. On the stage of the Munich Philharmonie he sparks up a live fireworks of rhythm and emotion. Herb Alpert and his eight Cuban Allstars present tracks from their album Passion Dance.

Dave Brubeck - Take Five In A Quartet
Dave Brubeck sees himself primarily as a composer who also plays the piano. However, it was as a jazz pianist and improviser that he rose to fame. His name is usually mentioned in conjunction with "Take Five", the first jazz instrumental to sell a million copies.

Gary Burton and Makoto Ozone: Duet
These two great jazz players - vibraphonist Gary Burton and pianist Makoto Ozone - both noted for their virtuoso technique and innovative style, came together to give a concert of improvised music. They delighted the audience with their fluid, poetic artistry, which was expressed in a performance of the highest order.

Michel Camilo: Solo Piano
This live recording was made during the 1999 Münchner Klaviersommer when Camilo made one of his rare solo appearances. Improvising on a Steinway D grand piano, he drew from his instrument an astonishing palette of musical colours, both rich orchestral sounds and a tender lyricism.

Betty Carter and her Trio
The premiere of this First Lady of Jazz at the Munich Philharmonie was received enthusistically by the public. Betty Carter was accompanied by a trio with Cyrus A. Chestnut (p), Jon Roland Ariel (b) and Clarence l. Penn (dr). Betty Carter denied heating up the public with lurid and popular standards or phrases, instead she celebrated great singing artistry in her unmistakable artistic profile.
