A Tribute to Miles Davis
This tribute was played by the legendary formation with Herbie Hancock (p), Wayne Shorter (sax), Ron Carter (b), Tony Williams (dr). The trumpet was played by the youg star trumpet player Wallace Roney who did not try to emulate Miles but instead played his music. This group has produced in the sixties unforgettable record documents, such as „Filles de Kilimanjaro“, „Miles in the Sky“, „Seven Steps to Heaven“, „E.S.P.“, „Sorcerer“, Miles Smiles“, „Nefertiti“.These titels have written jazz history. The quality of the music and the atmosphere in the audience leave nothing to be desired.

For Joe Henderson together with Dave Holland (b) and Al Foster (dr) it was a premiere at the Münchner Philharmone at the Klaviersommer 1993. He showed that purely acoustic music could be just as convincing as ambitious electric music. Critical voices claim that this concert was the best in all of the Klaviersommer 1993.

Al Jarreau was born 1940 in Milwaukee. As a youth he sang in the church choir. later on he studied psychology. He soon realised that music was to be his vocation in life and 1975 he landed a contract with Warner Bros. Records. In short time he acquired a huge international fan base. His music combines Jazz, Pop and Rhythm & Blues which earned him a Grammy in all of these music styles.

This concert brought together two of the jazz world's finest vibraphone players for the first time: veteran Milt Jackson - famed as a member of the immensely successful Modern Jazz Quartet - and Gary Burton, a vibraphonist who, in creating a new and wholly original musical style. Accompanied by the Japanese pianist Makoto Ozone and a rhythm section of bass and drums, Jackson and Burton played programme of jazz standards and improvisations.
